I think if I bought an IS 6MT I would not shift that hard that would result in faster speed than automatic transmission (it's not a race car
anyway), after learning AT has also 6 speed AND get better MPG, the extra expense is no brainer, I opt for the AT.

Normally you would want M/T because it's supposed to save gas (MOSTLY true in old days of 5 speed MT vs 4 spd Auto) and sometimes lighter vehicle but the 6 MT weight is a little more than AT for this car.

Well, I guess I'll coast in neutral when using the stickshift as much as I can to see what kind of gas mileage I can get.

And at the very least, it's supposed to weigh less than the automatic right? And it's also about a thousand bucks cheaper. So manual tranny owners have SOME positives to take away.....

I personally prefer a manual transmission vehicle. That is why they offer both transmissions... plain and simple. some people prefer and enjoy using a clutch and having more control of the vehicle. others prefer the simplicity, smooth shifts, and possibly performance benefits of an auto. Lexus did the right thing by providing a vehicle that will attract 2 very different types of drivers. "There is an *** for every seat"

also, i am positive i can lead/follow any other factory auto IS250 and achieve better mpg on any given day... regardless of what is specified on paper, there are some driving habits you can adapt while operating a manual transmission vehicle to save quite a bit of gas mileage.

for example: putting the transmisison into neutral and coast to a stop while exiting freeways (instead of downshifting); coasting down hills, etc.

auto trannsmission vehicles always stay at least 500rpm's higher while in motion and in gear without the accelerator being pressed.

try it. I idle at ~950 rpm in neutral, whether i am stopped or going 90mph. that adds up to a lot of coasting miles per tank.

Yeah, I heard that the IS250/350 automatic are designed exactly the same as those transmissions.
