Bottom Line:
Sharp-looking and reasonably priced, the IS 250 gets a different personality with its six-speed manual transmission, though no more real performance.

it's kinda funny they said that.....if i want performance, I would go with HIGH POWERED cars like IS 350, Evo, STi....

I want 250 with 6MT cos it's LUXURY and I AM IN CONTROL with the gears!

...interesting
that's what make us 6MT crew unique

A manual Lexus is rare, not unique. I believe that's the main point of this thread, to better inform the select few out there that either own or plan to purchase one.

I'd get one just for the sick-looking wheels. But yeah that shifter is so low grade it's not funny. Perhaps Lexus did it on purpose so they can have the low sales figures to justify not offering it on the IS350.

The 70.4-mph slalom speed is amazing though.

Oh before ppl start pointing out examples of cars that go 70+ in slalom, dont forget to give the MSRP on those cars too...
Indeed. The BMW M3 Competition Package (closest to the CSL we get in the USA) posted a 68mph slalom speed in Edmunds' earlier test.

That is called catering to the elite.

They review exotics, like Ferrari's new GT that is pushing over $300K and Lamborghini lightweight (that is hella expensive for what it is) and how many people end up in one of those. If they sold 1000+ 6MT out ~of 37,000 total IS250 units, then it would appear that more like 2.8% not only WANTed one but ordered them that way.

The model is starting to get older and surely a Follow-Up is good P.R. for the IS250 model and as you say most buyers won't "come across one" otherwise.

Wait, they say that the 6MT offers "no real performance advantage", but then it apparently went 4 mph faster than the auto and the 350 through the slalom?

The 4-link independent rear suspension also has something to do with it.

Their refering to a 06 is350 with VDIM enabled, their 06 review and even a R&T review posted a 66mph slalom due to the VDIM.

I also find it interesting that the 250 with smaller brakes stops faster than the 350.

I would have to disagree with the "smoothness" of the IS250 6MT, beacause I own one and having driven my buddy's 2006 TSX 6MT the Lexus is way behind. The TSX have really short throws, precise gear changes, and the clutch engages at just the right point. When I got my '07 IS250 6MT I though the throws were decent, but compared to the TSX the throws now seem very long and the clutch seems to engage at a very high point...

I will agree that the IS have a very high cornernig limit, as i felt more confident cornering at high speeds with winter tires and sports suspension (i got my car in winter) than compared to my previous IS300 on coilovers and summer tires.

Glad to know the IS is faster around the salalom, but then again what good does that do us on the road?
