cracked windshield, what are my options?
hello everybody,
i had a pebble come up and in on me while driving on the freeway 2 weeks ago. i didn't think anything of it, but i noticed yesterday morning a 6" crack on my windshield, which has grown to about 2 feet long in the last 24 hrs. i called lexus, it's about $1000 installed for a new windshield, and i called one of the local places, who said they don't stock lexus IS windshields.
is replacing the windshield my only hope? and if so, is $1000 the only option i have?
any help would be much appreciated.

if you are like most people, your insurance will handle glass repair and/or replacement, probably with a $0 deductible (standard waived) so you wouldn't have to be concerned with this.

Go through your insurance... I have AAA with a $100 comp and they will replace mine which has a small crack in it for the 100 minus some 15% off coupon they have.

It varies by state. In New Jersey, your comprehensive deductible applies to glass replacement. In the past, I've had good luck with the mobile glass services that come to your home or office and replace the glass on the spot. I always insist that they use OEM glass.

I had windshield replaced here in ATL for $290 OTD with a PPG replacement windshield. I self insure. I actually prefer the replacement windshield to the original - no rear view mirror vibration and the glass seems harder i.e. no scratches or indentations.

I agree with Danis. I too have a replaced windshield with a PPG and it has corrected most of my rear view mirror shake and I haven't got any scratches or indentations either. (cross fingers) The only thing I have noticed with the PPG is that when you look at the windshield from the side at eye level you can see that the windshield is not as perfectly flat as the OEM.
