Thumbs up Wheel Question...

What's up all? I'm new to the forum and just put a deposit on an '08 IS350. I live in the Baltimore area and the dealer told me it should be here late September'ish. Anyway, I was hoping to put some after market wheels on, but I am unsure of a few things. I tried to search for the TPMS and how that will be affected with non factory wheels.. Couldn't really find anything other resetting the TPMS. Next question is... for the owners of 19's or 20's.. How does the bigger wheel and different size tire effect the odometer. Does a thinner wheel make up for the wheel increasing in size? I was once told that you have to get your odometer adjusted... Something to do with the diameter and the spinning of the wheel.. I guess the distance? Any info anyone could give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

A thinner wheel would easily break. What you could do is use a low profile tire on bigger rims. With 19"s you can still keep the overall diameter the same as stock so it wouldn't affect your odometer/speedometer reading at all. However, if you go 20"s, ride might be compromised a little and it'd be definitely almost to impossible to keep that same diameter.

As far as TPMS, most of the aftermarket wheels would be compatible, just have to find a shop to do it. Just make sure the valve stem opening isn't perpendicular to the rim. Last thing, you might want to make sure the offset and hub eccentricity is the same.

If the aftermarket wheels are TPMS compatible (meaning they are physically able to fit in the valve stem area) then all you have to do is pull the TPMS from the stock wheels and put them in the new ones before mounting the new tires on them. There is no reprogramming necessary.

A thinner tire (aspect ratio) can make up for the larger wheel. 225/35/19's have about the same overrall diameter as the stock 225/40/18's.

I was once told that you have to get your odometer adjusted...
Don't know if this is possible with the IS or any newer car as there is probably too much danger of odometer reading abuse.

Ask in the tires/wheels forum. A picture of the wheel would also help.

there is a website i was reading though u can input tire sizes from stock to the tires u want and it will tell u the difference in speed. for my i think my 20's will be 2 or 3 mphs faster than my dash says. but if u want to be real sure just ride past one of the stupid cop things that has a radar on it but tells you your speed on the board. not sure if everyone has these??
