I dont think its that they strayed, I just think its that they got cheap and wanted to use more of the existing G35 coupes parts. Look at that thing! The 08 looks dead on like the 07. I wouldnt be able to tell them apart until I got inside and see how they thankfully changed that hideous interior they had with those old school orange lights!

You mean like Lexus with the 2006 and 2007 IS250 and IS350? Could you tell those four cars apart without looking at the badges? If you can, I bet someone who is into Infiniti cars as much as we are into our Lexus cars can tell the difference in the G-series. Anyone want to take bets into how different the 2008 IS looks from the 2006 or 2007s? I'm thinking Lexus will get cheap too and use the same parts in the 2008s as the 2007s. They too will look dead on like the '07. My vote for most annoying Infiniti interior feature: the huge logos on the seats. That is just plain ugly to me.

Two things: my production IS350 ran a 13.82 on my very first pass at the drag strip. Not a magazine test car, but a production car bone stock right down to the spare, jack, and first aid kit. It also smoked a new Camry who thought it ought to be a reasonably close race on the same day.
My car with lux, nav, and ML weighed 3620 on a certified scale. Models without nav, HID, rear window shade, etc - should weigh less.
The weight of the G is really a disappointment at 3700+ for a manual transmission. That's really porky.

The gas mileage is what separates the IS from the G. 17/25 for the G37 coupe? LOL! I think my wife's minivan gets better mileage than that?
The main difference is that Lexus seems to boost its horsepower while improving gas mileage, while Infiniti seems to boost its horsepower while losing gas mileage. I think the latter is easier.

Ah the Japanese Trans-Am... ![Cool](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/cool.gif)
What separated the G from the IS - or Infiniti from Lexus for that matter, is much more than MPG IMO - Infiniti emphases performance at the expense of refinement and quality. Review after professional review is the same: Great performance but lacking refinement and quality which makes the joy of owning these vehicles short-lived. I find it ironic that Lexus [in general], the IS350 is bashed for not being a "True" performance vehicle, but I've yet to see the G place ahead of the IS350 in any of these professional reviews. How could that be...? I've owned one of these POS and have friends that have tried the Infiniti route as well - all including myself that I know have left that camp permanently.
There are no doubt others that like the G and Infiniti vehicles, and that's fine as well - it certainly is not a Ford Pinto by any means. But at this price point, everything counts and Lexus executes better than anyone out there IMO.
Perhaps the new G37 will address these issues, but the looks of it are already disappointing considering the incredible G concept. I doubt it will be any different than the ’07 G35 sedan – but you never know I guess.

You state you can't tell the difference in the SAME generation, the 2IS.
All cars gets heavier, it is RARE a car not to gain weight in today's world.

"The Bridgestone Potenza RE050 tires grab hold immediately, and the IS 350 leaps off the line. For our best acceleration runs, we left the transmission in full auto mode, letting the computer perform the upshifts, which it did quickly and smoothly at or near the 6600-rpm redline. The Lexus blasted to 60 mph in 4.9 sec. and to the quarter-mile mark at a blistering 13.5, which bests even the more expensive V-8-powered Audi S4."
