I think it foolish to rag on magazine testers...

My IS350 is the first car I've ever had that could come close to their performance numbers.

You should have bought a MkIV Supra...then you'd've had two...

No I agree with you. 200lbs is not "little". It's hard to shed 200lbs off. I don't remember seeing IS350 on that particular night, but I haven't seen any IS350 run anything better than 13.5x at the same track.

2007 350Z are different HP from the other year 350Zs. I think the new 2007 ones have the 306 HP whereas the old ones were 290? That could explain the faster 1/4 times for the 2007s.

And these are HP numbers at the crank right? How much parasitic loss is in incured before it gets to the wheels? People who quote magazine times never take rwhp into account... Then theres power to weight ratios, oh and hey lets throw in traction another very overlooked but very important topic...

Everyone is always thinking of ways to increase hp in their cars, i on the other hand think of how i can put what i got onto the ground first (4link suspension/negative camber/LSD/and oldskool add 200lbs in the trunk) and to reduce parasitic loss in the driveline (light weight driveshaft/lightweight flywheel/light weight accessory drive pullys). Not one of the things ive mentioned actually ADDs power yet everything ive metioned will help the car go faster, and there is so much more that can be done. Much more...

I've always been a little skeptical that even our peppy little IS350's could keep up with this thing. Anyways, I wouldn't be that disappointed if they couldn't. Infiniti seems more than happy to put a super powerful engine in an affordable luxury car. They have also had two extra years to make this car, which is of course a direct response to both the IS350 and the 335i.

When I read on autoblog that Nissan could be massively underrating the VQ37VHR (even more than BMW's N54), and the G37 could actually be putting out as much as 360 bhp, my jaw dropped.

Then there's this.

Not exactly rock-solid proof, but stock-for-stock, I at least think we'd get beat at a traffic light against one of these...

True but if you want a true sport car you wouldnt have bought a lexus to begin with right? I havent seen the inside of a G37 but i have seen the inside of a 335i and umm... its kinda like everyother BMW int ive ever seen, my parents old 1980 volare had a straight dash like that... sorry im not impressed. Sure it WILL handle better but im not driving at 110% 90% of the time. Lot more to cars than just performance. Total package goes to Lexus easy.

I'm not complaining, I'm just saying if performance is significantly more important to you than... well everything else ('cept maybe price, and I do like that built-in harddrive in the new G's), then the G37 is probably a good buy. It does sound like it could be pretty fun.

No regrets, though. I love my IS. Decision mighta been tougher if I was willing to wait a year, though...

HAHA you think? Lets say you did wait a yr, BMW sorts out the cooling problem, the G's even get more refined int. AND the IS coupe hits the market and then you buy one of those, what happens the yr after that? each of the cars get better n better then you'll say something like, 'mighta been tougher if i was willing to wait a year'

Well the IS and the G coupe were the main two options I was considering at the time I bought the car, but I never considered the G all that closely since the IS had it beat IMO in damn near every single way. Plus, it was a soon-to-be-outgoing model.

That wouldn't have been the case this year... and I *almost* had the will-power to wait just one more year.

But yeah, it's great watching these companies constantly duke it out, with a new and improved model announced every day. My opinion on who has the best car out in a given class will change overnight. That's why it's always fun fantasizing over what will be available the next time I'm in the market.

But mother of god, is it just me, or are these HP wars are getting insane?

Hehe, late 60's all over again. BUT it will peak as it did in the early 70's, the govt. laid down that 35mpg average thingy recently so... times will be changing again.

I just kinda wish toyota would bring over some of those JDM corollas to compete with the sentra/lancer/wrx. I feel sorry for the corolla guys, they really need some help. Even a tC will take a corolla, they really need to bring back the old SR-5 nameplate.

I wonder what kind of diet you could easily put the G37 on, weight loss would really benefit that car.

And news of another underrated motor is interesting but hasn't Nissan had the issue of overrating their motors for a number of years?

The G37 is a nice car, its a 1-up in the HP department but I'd have to see the rest (interior, fit and finish, etc) to make a decision.

Lovin' my IS350 in any event.

that's true.. especially with the IS350 comin in auto only, it's not that hard to pull the same numbers magazine testers put out... not always will you probably get exact, but similar results will come out.. whereas if it's manual, it comes down to driver's experience..

however, in MotorTrend, the IS350 was est at 6.0sec from 0-60 whereas later on, they tested it to be 4.9sec in the shootout against the TL Type S and the 07 G35 Sedan.. in the 335i comparo against the G37, MotorTrend had them at 5.1 and 5.4 respectively..

true, 1 year later, it would've been harder to choose, but once the IS350 came out, i knew i had to get it.. true sports car? probably not, but i'd list it as a true luxury sport sedan

That's fine and all. But I'm talking about the 2007 350Z specifically. It got a power bump in line with the new G35 and they supposedly haul *** now.

The old G35 coupe and sedan are obviously excluded from that list.

Sure, youtube videos of bone stock cars...I'm believing those stories for sure, cause I saw it on the Internet...
Should I discredit the IS350's I saw running mid 13's on youtube then?
