Default Advice Needed: 62 year old dad wants IS350

My thread title says it all. My dad drove my IS250 this past weekend, and called me this evening to tell me that he wants an IS350 with all the bells and whistles, and wants me to find one for him. No options or expense spared.

He and I have always had this silent father/son competition, so no surprise that he wants the IS350 vs. a 250 like I have.

A bit of history...he has owned a Lexus since they first started business in 1989/1990. However, he has never bought anything besides an LS, most recently the LS 460L.

I didn't have the heart to tell him that the demographics of the IS don't suit him (IMO, they don't). I'm trying to convince him not to buy one. What would you guys do??

Buy the 350. swap the 3 and the 2 from your cars. Remove your tint...

I can't believe you are worried about competing with your 62 year old father...

i'd help him. maybe he will bequeath the car to you when he passes. 62 is pretty ancient.

It is no competition as he always wins hands down...retired plastic surgeon and all.

No worries on my part, I just find it a bit funny that the old guy can want an IS350 when he has a LS 460L sitting in the stable right now.

LOL...your post does invite a few creative ideas on my part...

ROFL...yeah he is pretty ancient, at least we think so anyways...LOL

Honestly, he does have a few screws loose, but we've just kinda let him do his thing. Not much gas left in the tank, so we want him to be happy in his final days.

I can tell you that an IS350 would have me giddy in my final days.

Default Egads!

Up until a few seconds I was feeling pretty great.

I drive an IS350. Great car. Had the IS250AWD but wanted that extra grunt.

Always been a "car guy" and my other car is a '69 Camaro with a slightly beefed up Chevy small block 350. Mild cam, Edelbrock high rise intake, Demon carb, flow thru exhaust and the top goes down when I get bored.

Oh, and by the way, I'm a little older that your pop!

Have a nice day.

Unless your father has dementia or some other medical / mental problem, I'd argue that with 62 years under his belt, he certainly knows what he wants and is capable of making his own decision. If he wants an IS350, good for him!

BTW....If you think he does not fit the "demographics" of an ISx50, I have news for you! Here in South Florida, there are plenty of "seniors" driving one.

Heck, you should help him get the IS350 before he tests drives a C6 Corvette. LOL

HAHA pinstripe Salt *in black* on the white car and Pepper *in white* on the black car? Nah... i still say steer him towards the GS, that way you'll have a IS/GS/LS (who know what else) to choose from. IS as a daily, GS for wkends and the LS for those special times that require a touch of class.

How about he waits a few weeks for the G37 coupe and then you can have fun swaping cars. Keep him happy.....he is your dad.

Throw those demographics out with yesterdays trash. If your pops likes the IS, then find him one...sparing no expense...springs, rims, system tint, the whole nine yards, etc. Think about it, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain, because eventually he will come to his senses and hip-hop back over to the luxury and confinement of the LS, thereby leaving him only one logical choice....

So your Dad was comfortable getting in and out of the IS? That's what I'd be worried about...
