Default Question about warranty law

Hey guys I had a quick question, I've just put exhausts on my car and lexus says this will void my warranty even though i know it wont not unless they cant directly show that the exhaust caused the problem. Can you please tell me the name of the law which states this. "I believe its the Markinson Law but i might have mispelled it your help is greatly appreciated".

Just a note of caution...the law is there but for practical purposes if a dealer wants to give you a hard time they will. You might have to spend $$$$ and months to take them to court.

The "tie-in sales" section of Magnusson-Moss was intended to cover replacement parts (e.g. a Fram oil filter instead of OEM), not performance parts, which stress other parts of the system beyond what the design engineers intended. If you bolt on a supercharger and blow a head gasket, you should expect that you'll be paying for that repair; if you bolt on a supercharger and the door latch jams, your warranty for that unrelated subsystem should still be intact.

I wouldn't have even let the dealer know. Worst case situation, you have an issue - you could remove the exhaust and install factory, and never let the dealer know.

If the dealer installs it then it won't void the warranty.

I am glad our government has this law on the books.

In Mexico, it doesn't exist in any form. My uncle and I repeatedly deal with customers who have added performance modifications and dealer won't fix (dealers here are notorious for not honoring warranties...fighting any which way they can...(Toyota you are not one of them, keep up the good work).

Even an exhaust, which for all intensive purposes affects nothing as far as emissions (we are talking just a performance muffler in most cases). All about $$$.

the law gives you recourse, it doesn't dictate anyone's actions. it's consumer protection which means you have more weapons in your arsenal should you choose to fight. but you have to fight, there is no police to fight for you. well, maybe your state atty or da.
