So, according to IS350jet my Toyota dealer buys some Lexus oil filters just to have them in stock....just in case I might walk in?

My bad, I meant the IS350 shared the same engine with newest Sienna.
The 2GR found in the 07 Sienna is not the same as the 2GR found in the IS350. The '07 Sienna uses the 2GR-FE, also found in the following vehicles:

2005 Toyota Avalon
2006 Toyota Aurion
2006 Toyota RAV4 V6
2006 Toyota Estima V6
2007 Toyota Previa V6
2007 Toyota Tarango V6
2007 Toyota Camry V6
2007 Toyota Sienna
2007 Lexus ES350
2007 Lexus RX350
2008 Toyota Kluger
2008 Toyota Highlander

The 2GR-FSE is only used in the following vehicles:

2006 Toyota Crown Athlete
2006 JDM Lexus GS350
2006 Lexus GS450h
2006 Lexus IS350
2007 USDM Lexus GS350

The part number for the oil filter that the 2GR-FE uses in the 2007 Toyota Sienna is 90915-YZZG1, and it can also use 90915-YZZD1. I just called two separate Toyota dealerships to confirm this.

Most Toyota dealers in my area stock them. Your area may be different. I would say they stock them more for service vehicles as apposed to walk-in customers.

Thanks. In any event I'm glad the local Toyota dealer has them. It is closer to home and less $.

Unfortunately, the elements are not the same. There is quite a bit of difference in the height.

Also, looking at the parts book diagram, I don't see how they would be interchangeable.

Let's try that again.

IS250 AWD 04152-YZZA2

Neither part number is a valid Toyota part number and are not compatible with ANY Toyota model. Toyota dealers must buy them from a Lexus dealer when needed.
You listed the YZZA2 and YZZA3. They are fully interchangeable. As you pointed out the YZZ-A1 is not an interchange, and I discovered this immediately while at the Toyco dealership. That's why they ordered the box of 10 YZZ-A2 for me. They work perfectly in my IS350.

Also, any Toyota dealer can look them up in Dealer Daily, find them, and order them without issues.

Oops! You're right. I wasn't thinking when I grabbed both of these filters. Disregard.

In our region (SET) Toyota cannot order these filters. They've tried and SET cancels their order. They have to be a valid Toyota part number before SET will send them. We sell a LOT of these filters to Toyota dealers because they can't get them. Again, another region may be different.

Same here, the Toyota dealer here sends me the YZZ-A2 for my IS350 and it works fine. In fact, I think our local dealer simply supercedes the YZZ-A3 to YZZ-A2 to save shelf space since the price difference is negligible.

To sum up:

04152-YZZA1 (the shorter filter) fits the 2GRFE engines:

2007 ES350
2007-2008 RX350
2005-2007 Avalon
2007 Camry V6
2008 Highlander
2006-2007 RAV4 V6
2007 Sienna V6

04152-YZZA2 / YZZA3 (the taller filter) fits the 2GRFSE, 3GRFSE, & 4GRFSE engines:

2006 GS300 V6 RWD
2007 GS350 V6 RWD
2007 GS450H hybrid V6
2006-2007 IS350
2006-2007 IS250

*Note: the 04152-YZZA2/A3 also interchanges with 04152-31060.

Do you have to use the plastic piece? I have the AWD model and I just remove the entire oil filter assembly, replace the element, and throw out that piece of plastic. I never could figure out what to use that for.

I have had 2 filters changed at a local Toyota dealer and they have always had the item in stock.

Its a handy little drain spout. Just un-screw the flat plug on the bottom of the filter housing with the end of a 3/8" ratchet wrench and snap in the "plastic piece". It will drain the oil in the filter housing. Then when you un-screw the whole housing from the engine, its not half full of hot oil and doesn't make such a mess. You must buy those filters in the boxes with Japanese diagrams rather than English diagrams

I just called Sunnyvale Toyota and they had the 04152-YZZA2 for 9.98 each. How much are you guys paying for yours without a bulk buy?

I've been buying the 04152-YZZA3 from my dealer, Ray Catena Lexus, for $5.41. They've been throwing in the drain gasket at no additional cost.

Whether it is $5 or $10 for the filter let's remember we are driving $35k to $50k automobiles. Saving a dollar here or there is nice, but convenience in getting the filter is more important than the exact price. It is amusing in hearing people debating whether they can save a dollar or two by going someplace else. Yet they'll slap on multi thousand dollar wheels and think nothing of it.

If nothing else, the population of this Forum proves how fickle human nature really is.
