When your passenger airbags are on the amber light says "passenger airbag on". If you turn it off with your key it says "passenger airbag off".

Night or day, this light should come on when heavy weight is on the passenger seat.

Yes it is normal and it comes on whenever someone with enough weight sits on the passenger sit. This is designed this way so if a small child is sitting on the front side (which is a no no), the airbag will not deploy in the event of an accident. Or else the airbag can kill or seriously injure him/her. On most american cars it is the other way around. It displays "Airbag Off" when someone is NOT sitting in the passenger seat.

Question Attention Lobuxracer

So while I was test driving at Taste of Lexus... I found that light quite un-necessary...

Is there a way to turn it off permanently???

Maybe bulb removal??

Its easy to figure out if I have an Adult passenger the Airbag will deploy, if I don't, it wont deploy and rip open the dash in the event of an accident.

Thanks

Just an FYI...06 models do NOT have the pass. airbag indicator light. The only light for the passenger is the seatbelt light.

Hmmm. Sounds like a bulb remove and replace with a diode or resistor - or maybe you can remove it and still pass a wire check - not sure - I don't have an '07 - '08 so I really don't know.

The info I posted is straight from the horse's mouth, the '07 New Car Features manual.

If it were my choice, all airbags would be an option not a government mandated waste of materiel and mass.

Thanks for the info!!!
I guess I'll have to tinker when I get my 08'... I'll be doing the Nav & DVD Hack..

Any chance this is part of the LPS settings??
("Lexus Personalized Settings")

Kinda like the DRL's On or Off feature??

Thanks

Unfortunately there are no LPS for SRS. It's government mandated and Toyco sees tampering with government mandated equipment as downright illegal and they won't condone it in any way.
