My BMW actually has more technology than our IS with Premium.

RTTI
More features in NAV
Automatic ventiliaton/heating while parked
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), including Brake Fade Compensation, Start-off Assistant, Brake Drying, and Brake Stand-by features, with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)
More lumbar adjustments
Split fold down seats
On-board computer has more things it can check.
BMW Assist
Baby seat latches (not sure if the IS has this honestly)
Programmable steering wheel buttons
Logic 7 (std, but we don't have the ML on the IS), full EQ, DSP, etc.
Full IPod integration

But I did have to pay more.

A comparable BMW is at least $4K more. Add in the stuff above and you're probably $8K-$10K more than the Lexus.

I've never found BMWs to be worth the money. I could pay $44K for a fully loaded IS350, but would have trouble paying $50K+ for a comparable BMW. I don't believe that cars this small should cost over $45K.

I wouldn’t doubt that a new G has the newer gadgets, the model is 3 years newer. It should have a lot more bells and whistles. Technology continues to change so fast every year matters. I highly doubt that the quality of the bells and whistles is no where near the Lexus ones. Hell, the IS was probably designed 7+ years ago and no one was thinking about mp3 players much back then.

Everything I listed in my list is either standard or pretty cheap. The Navi/RTT is cheaper than the Lexus. The Logic 7 is standard, full ipod integration is a few hundred bucks. If you add a ML package to a IS350, the price gap between the 335i and IS350 is even closer. The options on a BMW are actually less than Lexus. I know this, we have an IS too.

I paid 43 +TTL for my BMW and it has all those options.

I think the new 07 G is only one model year newer than the new 06 IS. However, I do realize the 06 IS came out fairly early 05, but that is still only about two years newer. If the new 06 IS was being designed 7+ years ago, the new G was probably being worked on 6 or so years ago as well. I personally think the new G is very much on par interior and material quality wise and some Lexus cars. It still isn't quite in the same league as my 99 LS, but I thought it looked and felt better than my 04 RX330 in most areas.

Just another reason Toyota is developing a completely proprietary operating system for their cars.

AFA a virus. Very not likely. The ECM's software has a checksum value and generates a checksum to compare to this value everytime the ECM is started. It will not run if the checksum doesn't match, and writing to the flash isn't something anyone can just plug in and make happen. Way too many checks and balances in the way.

I could see this happening with GM, Honda, maybe Ford, but seriously doubt it will happen to a Toyota product. They take security far too seriously.
