I think the biggest reason that makes the 15,000 service worth while is that they do a very thorough inspection of the car, all the way to the bolts in the frame. That way, if there is an issue, it can be caught well before it becomes a problem.

Are you sure they will do a THOROUGH inspection of the car?

Whether the dealerships do decent jobs or not, when you sell your car, buyers will love your service records!

Amen to that! It always helps to have those records.

Inspections at the dealer are total BS. I took my wife's minivan in for an oil change last month, and I wanted to see how honest the dealer actually was. Just before I arrived at the dealer, I stopped off at a nearby gas station and lowered the tire pressure in one of the tires to about 25 psi.

I got to the dealer and told them that I will wait for them to finish. They informed me that my car was finished 30 minutes later, and handed me the inspection sheet that said tire pressure for all tires was the recommended 34 psi.

Before I drove off, I pulled out my pressure gauge to check the tire pressure of the one I purposely deflated. It read 25 psi.

I then went back in and informed the service consultant, and they said my gauge must be wrong. They took another gauge with them, and it read...25 psi.

I then asked the consultant why the technician lied on this inspection form. He had no answer, and I threatened to call Toyota's customer service line and the Better Business Bureau. They then threw in 5 free oil changes to retain my business, and took my vehicle in the back to get the tire inflated.

I probably got the service technician fired, but I don't feel bad for it. If you pay for a service, it is expected. If tech cuts corners, then there may be consequences. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
