I wonder how well a cut filter seals to the edge?

Because if you don't you won't be able to gain access to the filter. If you attempt to force the flap open anyway, you'll break the servo motor and/or linkage, necessitating a time consuming and expensive repair.
I to discovered the flap, and apparently broke the linkage. Can you point me towards the parts needed to make the repair?

Not sure its that easy. Haven't seen anyone repair it yet, but from what someone said on CL once, if you break it your talking about removing the dash to get back there and make the repair.

I took things apart last night, and after removing the passenger knee air bag/glove box I was able to get access to the broken part. I glued it back on with plastic epoxy, but I am not sure if the plastic is PP in which case the glue wont bond. It does look like I may be able to put a screw through the broken piece and repair that way.

I change it every 12K-15K miles.
Maybe overkill but that's the way I am with vehicle maintenance.

Wow, so much easier than I thought!

I got the carbon filter version from Sewell.

Going to empty a can of lysol in there while I'm at it because it smells.

I had heard that you should check every 15k and change every 30k for both the Air Filter and the Cabin Air Filter. I changed both Filters last in mid-2010 a little over 25k miles. I am now a bit over 53k miles and looking to deal with them again soon. However, I have the Blitz Air Filter and Cabin Air Filter installed and I think I can just wash and replace at least once. I think I'm supposed to do it on a sunny day and leave the filter in the sun. I'm trying to find a clear answer on this.

I change mine every 15k!

I'd probably go every 30k, but at $12/each, i'm not fussing about it lol

^ Yep you got it right.

The flap in front of the filter should open up easy if you've done it right.

Got a link to where you bought it at? How much was it?

Does it have arrows indicating direction of air flow?

I bought it on ebay. $19 shipped. use to go for $15 but they bumped the price before I could get in on it.
I dont know if it has arrows as I have never used the product before. I ordered it to test it out, heard some good things about it from previous threads.
