Lexus service tech: Was he right?
Hi Folks,
I brought my IS into the dealer this morning for it's 10k oil change. I said all i wanted was the oil change, nothing extra (It's $64 as it is! I need to do these myself). He claimed that by declining the inspections and etc (which would add on more $$ than i thought was necessary), Lexus could void warranty repairs in the future.
Now, he said that with a smirk and his body language showed me that it was probably a half-truth (or maybe the odds of that happening are so slim). So i wanted to ask the experts here if he was right or telling me bs.
Thanks!

He's toeing the company line and blowing smoke up your ****. Service depts are more profitable than sales, if a tech spotted anything remotely wrong during the routine oil change, you better believe they'll hit you up and try to sell you on the repairs . . .

There is also nothing that says that these inspections need to be done by Lexus employed techs. If you want to get them done, I bet you can get your local shop to take a peek, or maybe a toyota dealership.
The only way I can see forgoing the inspection coming back to haunt you is if there is a problem that doesn't get caught, or in resale if you can't produce evidence that the factory maintenance schedule was followed...

you know what my friend is a service tech and he told me that they are required to say that trying to make you spend the extra $$...It is not really needed and most of the important things are checked during the oil change anways :P

the oil change is necessary, the additional inspection and what not is just peace of mind.
for me, i do pay for the extra services because of the peace of mind of knowing that i have a higher probability to avoid any issues down the road, not because i can afford it (i barely can, actually).

Find a good mechanic you trust, he can do all the inspections nessacary to keep the car within factory guidelines. I think its crock of $---T how techs scare people by dangling the warranty infront of them.

Actually it is true that Lexus can deny any warranty repairs should you refuse inspection, BUT at 10k miles it's doubtful anything is wrong with your car right now so you should be fine.
If you go to independant shop, just remember to keep all your receipts in a file in case you do need to file a warranty claim in the future.
I think they should do a quick inspection for FREE, but that's just mho....

If you want to be safe, bring the maintenance book and tell them to check whats listed. Technically he's right because in the book there a lot of check this and that, so to comply with warranty those need to be checked.
