Should call the dealers buff, tell them no thank you and put the old pads back.

It took me 2 trips just to get the service rep. to agree to do it under warranty, then another 1 just to get it replaced.

Screw the stealership!

I experienced the same problem. I printed out the TSIB paper and bought them to Longo Lexus. Dropped off my car on Saturday morning and borrow a loaner over the weekend. Got a call from them on Monday saying that my brake are metal to metal which TSIB won't cover if the pads are less that 3mm in thickness even-thought the paper said 48months/50k. They were going to charge me over $600 for parts (2 rotors, pads and brake sensors) and labor. I took the car back and the rotor are still in spec, so re-grind and bought new OEM pad for $60, every are fine now and back on the road!

 

aug 7th update.

lexus USA called back today.

they said because they do not interact with lexus of canada the best they can do for me is reimburse me for the service on the pads. a very satisfactory response imo.

i have not heard that about needing to have more than 60 percent left, but it makes PERFECT sense. i was thinking about getting the TSIB done when my brake pads are toast and i need new ones. even though i thought about doing it, i admit i thought i might be taking advantage of the situation a little bit since the tsib is there to fix an annoying problem and not to give out free brakes when the original ones need replacing.

 

Whether you're under warranty or not $300.00 to get brake pads replaced?? I don't think so.

If your break pads were trully down to the metal I would have asked to see them.

 

Not only that, but you would not have been able to grind them flat and have at least minimum thickness left. I seriously doubt they were metal on metal.

Keep in mind the factory service manual says 1mm of pad is the minimum. You only start with 12.5, so that means you get 11.5mm of pad before the brakes are officially worn out. I am surprised at how many guys are replacing pads with 3 or 4mm of pad left. That's still quite a bit of service life you are throwing away.

 

so here is the final outcome of this tale.....

When I picked up my car and paid the $300, the service advisor told me that he would get with the District Lexus rep and see if Lexus would cover the TSIB cost of $300; if District rep. approved, then dealership would reimburse me.
I waited over two weeks and heard nothing.
On Monday, I called corporate to complain. By Thursday, I got a call back from corporate and was told that corporate would send me a check for te cost of the brake job.

Hope noone else has the same headache I had with the stealership.

 

Okay what the hell are they going to do with 60% left brake pads? Sounds wrong to wear it down until 10% but if they're going to throw it away, might as well put it to use.
