Default DIY maintenance and warranty

This issue seemed to have popped up lately. If I don't go to the dealer to have maintenance every 5000 miles would the dealer still honor the warranty?

Would it be ok to just replace all consumables and do nothing until something breaks... has worked fine with all my toyotas and scions...

My initial thought is no, they cannot void the warranty because I've never had this issue with any other car. However, I'm tempted to read all of the warranty clauses for Lexus to find out. I'll post what I find.

No, they cannot void the warranty for not going to the dealer every 5k for service, but they can void it if it you don't do the recommended maintenance. I know alot of DIYers and they keep records of what & when maintenance was done, they only visit the dealership for warranty work . . .

i really don't see anything but the usual maintenance in the book until 15k and then it's just inspections. they never road test i know that for a fact! the next question is how they justify the huge expense on these every 5k services. it's just an oil change for cryin out loud!

Revenue enhancement....they have a lot of overhead to cover, you know. There is no such thing as a free coffee latte.

Keep receipts for all non dealer service, even oil, filters, and other parts you purchase for DIY projects. You want to be covered, if some unfortunate catastropic failure occurs, while you're within warranty.

Better safe than sorry.

ummmm....they can't VOID the warranty unless you alter (mods are ok...i.e legal mod, intakes, springs, that kind of stuff) rake (if they can prove it) anything in the car that is cover. they can't void the warraty because you did take it in to have ANY of the services done at the dealership. Do a search on "The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)" this should explain it better.
