Intake & MPG

Intake & MPG
I installed the JoeZ intake and K&N filter last month and reset the ECU.
However now Im losing gas ridiculously, my driving habits have changed a little bit, Im driving a lot harder so that I can hear the intake but I drive fast anyways. Also I dont feel as much power as before initially until I start to get into the 3-4k rpm range.
Did I install it right or is this normal, is their a driving method that I should adapt to? Im only getting about 17mpg or less on the streets!!
Also If I do install an exhaust later on will this help or worsen the mpg??

What kind of MPG were you getting before?
3000 RPM is where a lot intakes, not just JoeZ, just start to kick in. I know an MDX owner who made a custom intake and report the same thing to me as when I tried out a Weapon R wipe on my RX.
As far MPG and your exhaust, it is going to depend on your setup and your driving habits.

I was getting at least 18 mpg or more before and with the intake it feels sluggish when i push the gas pedal.
Do you think by adding an exhaust will this help because of less weight and hp gains.

One thing is that when you have a short ram you bring in hotter engine air, that is why I have a lower air intake on my RX to feed cooler air.
With an exhaust, a direct flow muffler, you will gain more than you do through one of these short ram intakes.
The issue with weight is usually very minimal.
