Now, that being said, how many of your friends with similar cars paid for them with money they earned and not an allowance or other funding from the 'rents? My guess is that there aren't too many.
In Summary: Respect for paying for your own car at 18, more respect for driving intelligently enough to still be alive. But I think you are the exception in the under 21 EVO/STI owner crowd.

say no more, because...
as a former regular at the socalevo.net forums, based on what i've read/heard/saw a large majority of evo owners (that still run stock/street clutch setups) do not recommend the 5k clutch-dumping launch. the clutch is the weak link in the evo drivetrain (the center diff coming a close second), and as such a 5k clutch dump can result in disaster (i.e. immediate clutch disintegration, broken center diff, you get the idea).
now the STi, you CAN do the 5k clutch dump... /OT
without a perfectly clean launch, the evo can and probably still do high 13s or low 14s, mostly due to its tenacious traction via all wheel drive.
good thing with the is350 is, stomp the gas and let'er rip. let the computer do the legwork for you; just focus on where you're going.
