Default installing Xtreme HID kit

Hi i've seen all the guides on how to install HID on 2nd gen IS and I was wondering if a rubber grommet is absolutely necessary? Can I just drill an 1'' hole on the dustcover and use duct tape or watever tape to seal it after wires are through. Also if grommet is needed, is silicone necessary? or simply tape is enough. Sorry i'm asking all these noob questions =(

i would say it isn't totally necessary, BUT you should do it right the first time.

icic, well can i find the silicone and grommet at home depot? the reason i ask if i need the grommet because there is this plastic cap holding the two leads into the car's stock harness and I dont know how to remove that cap to allow the wires to go through the hole first then reapply the cap back onto the two leads. For silicone do i need a gun to use it?

I would say get the grommet and do it RIGHT. The OEM dust cover prevents dust and moisture to get inside your headlight housing, so with a 1" gaping hole dust/moisture will get in , even if duct tape which isn't a perfect seal.

My HID kit (MTEC) came with grommets and it formed a perfect seal once installed into the dust cap with a 1" drilled hole.
