How long do you plan on keeping your car?
#19
As many others have mentioned, I plan on keeping my car for at least 7-8 years (if not longer) unless priorities change during that time frame.
I have the 7yr/100k factory extended warranty so I'm not worried about any repairs.

I will be keeping my IS for 7-8 years. I'll probably end up keeping it until my extended warranty expires (7 yrs 100k) and then move on. However if I win the lottery or get a monster pay raise in the next 7 years, i'd consider trading her in for something more extravagant (aka Ferrari!)

Ill ride it til she dies... although once i buy a house i see myself trading for a tacoma or ridgeline. I like the car but its a huge inconvenience for me that 1) the rear seats done fold down; and 2) i dont want to put a bike rack on it. Home depot runs with an IS wont be fun.

I'll keep it as long as it looks good and is reliable, probably 8 to 10 years. Cars are too expensive to toss out once they get out of warranty. Even if something untoward happens after the warranty ends it will almost always be cheaper, from a cash flow point of view, to repair the car rather than ditching the car and getting a new one. And Japanese cars are so reliable now that 50,000 miles is nothing ..... a well maintained car should go at least to 150,000 mi with no major problems.
And I don't have a real need to drive the 'latest and greatest'. Nothing wrong with a 10 year old Lexus. There are plenty of LS400's running around.

My current plan is to keep it for 10 years. OTOH, the car is paid off and if somehow I get the urge to swap it with something else (M3 sedan maybe ) then that's a different story. If I could afford it then why not.
