Hey,

I have noticed that when I start my car sometimes, it makes a strange cranking noise. It usually happens after it has been sitting for a while, or when the weather is very hot (has happened a couple times when it is very cold). It is almost like the starting of our car mixed with a dash of chainsaw. Any idea on what it could be?

I just performed my first DIY oil change and when I started the car I heard the same type of noise. Shut the car off, started it again.... no noise. Started the car a few hours later, noise came back! Wondering if I did something wrong or may have damaged something jacking up the car (though I used the recommended jack point in the manual and double checked on the forums as well). Hope someone has some info

I just got my car back from the dealer having this problem fixed. There is a service bulletin from Lexus about the problem, cam gears or something. Look in this forum for the thread. There are 11+ pages of members discussing this same issue. I will update the forum if I notice the problem coming back.
