Default 500 RPM Rev drop @ 2,500 to 3K in 2nd & 3rd IS350

Hi, I am new to Club Lexus forum, however I appreciate your posts for many upgrades which I have planned. My new IS 350 has almost 4k miles in 1 1/2 weeks since date of purchase. I drive a lot for work and was wondering if anyone has run into this problem:

Between 2,500 & 3,000 rpm my engine drops about 500 rpm as if I was bumping up against a rev limiter. Car is in Lexus dealer service now but I need any feedback you can give. Thanks!

No, sorry its not. It holds the gear but just drops for no reason.
Maybe an ECU reset will help but I thought other 07 350 owners might be experiencing a similar problem.

Yep, that's strange.

How do you know its holding gears? You can't go by the display...that's just the highest gear.

I count the gear shifts from 0MPH. In second and third this problem exits. No problem in first, fourth through sixth. Unless the cars skips gears like the old Camaros used to, the problem is only in second and third.

Hmm, so do you feel the engine braking when it drops the revs?

No engine just a fuel cutoff. Once RPMs reach 2,500 engine runs as normal, happens over and over unless I get on it and get above 3,000. Only happens when throttle is neutral to very light.

Really, I have faith that the dealer will fix via a ECU reset etc. but was trying to help the community in case other 07 IS350 owners had the same problem.

Very strange....first I've heard of it. Hopefully the ECU reset will fix everything.

I had a 'false' rev limiter set on my e90 BMW @ 4.5k rpm that was a software issue, fixed by an update. Sounds similar.

I heard that BMW did that when the engine was cold on the newer M3's.

Not that low. The M3 variable rev limiter only went up 500 or so if memory serves.

My e90 was in 'shipping mode', which is a precaution against any idiotic 16 year olds that work at the port and might want to take it out for a spin. BMW recommends a break-in of 1200 miles keeping it under 4.5k, so I guess that's why they have that mode.

Think my car does this too, and I think its normal.

Put your display on the gear selector. Don't count the gears yourself.

It sounds normal. Like the torque converter going in and out of lock. Your description of when and how it happens leaves out a lot of detail. Does it only happen during cold cycle? The transmission is restricted when it is cold to fourth gear maximum, then fifth gear until the ATF get sufficiently hot.

Does it only do it on very light throttle? There is a fuel cut at 2500 rpm if you lift your foot off the throttle.

Does it do it going downhill/uphill? The ECM is situationally aware and will engine brake going downhill and make other compensation based on whether you are climbing or descending.

Got any particulars about this?
