Thats BS i had to replace my rear bumper after some idiot backed into me and it was 600 out the door painted and everything
To replace the bumper??? That is AMAZING. A couple of days after I put down a deposit on my IS, someone rear ended my '00 TL which I was going to be trading in. Their insurance company contacted me, and I brought it out for an estimate. Literally, there were 3 areas of the bumper that were scratched (along with 7 years worth of other scratches)--Nationwide cut me a check for $500 to get the bumper re-painted.
Are you sure they didnt just use paper mache for you bumper????
Bumpers are make to absorb as much damage as possible...
Nah, they are designed to look good. Modern bumpers are nothing more than a painted plastic cover over a bit of energy absorbing foam.

It's one mph higher than the old bumper spec that was scrapped in 1982. Those old bumpers were made of steel, usually with a tire-grade rubber strip, and attach to the car with a pair of shock absorbers. They were federally mandated to absorb a 5 MPH impact without damage to any exterior part, including the bumper.
Since 1983, bumpers only have absorb a 2.5 MPH impact without damage to any exterior part, excluding the bumper.

yeah i know that they did the correct and right job because at first the shop thought they could get away with not replacing the bumper and kept the old one as evidence to prove the crack was to severe on the inside...cash is key my friend at least here in NY

This sounds untrue however I can tell you it is, the person was driving a three series and hit is so hard they bent their wheel in messing up the axle, thought they were in Drive when they were in reverse...women drivers
Remember that when the bumpers get smashed, so do electronics in/around the bumper, like park assist, laser cruise, outside temp sensors, backup camera lens. It's more than just the bumper.
Well that doesn't seem much for me atm since my insurance is quite high... $3,600.... at least I know if i get into an accident it was worth getting the best insurance coverage
i think this test is full of crap because you're only givin' an estimate on a certain damage point... if the momentum at which the car is damage is greater... you can't think of it as a linear price increase... in other words...
from a math stand point... try drawing a an exponential curved line with only one point...
i hope this makes sense..
That's a very good analogy.
Just go out and drive it. If you get hit, call insurance..
