German Castrol is the favorite motor oil over at the 'Bob is the Oil Guy' website. This should not be confused with Castrol 'Syntec' which is not the same as the German Castrol (GC). The GC is Green in color and the bottle MUST say "Made in Germany" on the back. It is only available at AutoZone or through mail order.
The GC comes only in a 0W-30 viscosity. In our GR series engines, I know you can use 5W-20 or 5W-30 (10W-30 in a pinch, if the weather is warm). The question is, can the GC 0W-30 motor oil be used in our GR series engines?
Any insight would be appreciated.

I hope you have some in stock. Good luck finding it if you dont! The "green" has been discontinued and now comes only in "gold" and many think its not the same as the former.
The favorite oil on the BITOG forum is not GC but PP. You'll have great results with Pennzoil Platinum, its cheaper than GC, and it'll protect your engine from wear just as well in my opinion

I just picked up 10 quarts of M07 coded GC at Autozone. Great oil for $4.49 per quart for the summer, in the winter I would love to try Amsoil 0w-20 after I used up my old stash of M1 SL rated 0w-20.

I did some research on the Nippon 0w-50 and have found that yes in deed, it is very good oil but it is still a 50 weight oil. In the spec sheet it shows that at 40 and 100 degrees C. it has a viscosity of over double that of a 0w-20. This means that not only are the molecules larger, the viscosity is also double that of what should be used. Nippon does make a 0w-20 but it is not a group IV oil (not 100% synthetic). There was a big debate on Bobistheoilguy.com as to the HP gain claims by Nippon for the 0w-50. In the discussions there is also a consensus that this oil can not be used in 95% of the car on the market today (weight rating is too high).
