IS purchase questions
Hi,
Have a couple of questions as I'm getting ready to purchase my 250 AWD. I'm special ordering the car (2008 model) with the help of pre-negotiated pricing from CarQuotes.com. Part of the pricing includes a Regional Advertising Charge, which comes out to be $429 for the AWD model for the Chicagoland area. My question is, is this charge actually part of true dealer invoice? Or is it just a "fee" charged to me by Carquotes and/or the dealership?
Also, would a Taste of Lexus coupon work for me on top of my pre-negotiated pricing?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Club!
It seems that the $429 is a fee that any dealership pays to Lexus corporate as part of being advertised as a Lexus dealership. Such variable regional fees are added to the price of cars, so it's should not be part of the invoice price. Expect that price to be tagged over invoice, unless if the dealership is willing to do otherwise.
As far as the coupon is concerned, people have used it after the final negotiation price. Take advantage of it!
Good luck! I hope you join our little family real soon...

It's known also as MACO for other brands. Philosophically, it really shouldn't count as an invoice price any more than the electric bill at the dealer. It's a cost of selling the car, as the advertising did its job by making you aware of the car and bringing you to the dealer.
Practically, however, dealers will insist on that as part of the invoice, as it shows up on a line item on a printout they can show you. It's pretty much the only industry I can think of that directly charges the customer back for the advertising that got them the customer in the first place...
I'm not aware of any Taste of Lexus coupons that are still in effect right now, but I used mine last winter after I negotiated the final price. The only bad part is that it's applied after tax, so you get taxed on the first amount, not after the $750 deduction.
