I dont expect more because of the price of this car, i expect more cause its a Lexus and luxury oriented. Pretty much every car company out there has a car in the 35-40k range. And this car is not a 45k dollar car, its a 35k dollar car, only reason it cost 45k is because of options, but that has nothing to do with rattles, a/c ect, need to use base price when looking at these things. 35k, although not cheap, is NOT an expensive car these days. All that being said, i am VERY VERY impressed with the luxury, reliability, and fit/finish of this car for 35k, not much else like it on the market.

I personally couldn't be happier with the quality of my IS. I have barely any rattles to speak of, no AC issues, or any other annoying issues. My only gripe is that the my raw denim jeans stain my cashmere interior, which has nothing to do with Lexus.

The fit and finish of my car built June 2007 is first rate, everything is tight, I'm really impressed with the quality but I already knew that coming from the SC400. Lexus is known for details, when I had my SC400 even the way the buttons felt to the touch was very Lexus, I was glad to see that carried into the IS as well. It's weird how so many years from when my SC400 was built in 98 to the IS in 2007 and yet I still see that same high quality and workmanship in the Lexus IS. I will say the leather in the IS is alot softer than what I had in my SC400 and I find myself being extra careful not to scratch it with my jeans but I love the feel of the leather very supple.

I still love the one about the shifter not locking in drive...I've never had a car that did that...talk about a major safety issue if it did lock in drive!!! As for my IS250, it's coming up on 15,000 miles and I have absolutely zero complaints with the car.

Ok, I'll clarify it then. I don't expect ANY modern car to rattle. We have a Ford Ranger in my family that is 10 years old, and it has never had a single rattle. In the meantime, my Lexus rattles, creaks, and squeaks like a POS. I'm also impressed with many aspects of this car, but I don't make excuses for it. Lexus has built many cars that don't rattle, but has devolved to the point where there are TSBs out for the new LS460 to address rattles.

If people settle for mediocrity for a $35k car that many of us happened to pay much more for, then there's little reason for Lexus to improve the cars. I expect more, and I won't buy another Lexus until Toyota restores some of the quality they had in 2004.

If anyone doubts the quality decline in Toyota these days, read some of the comparison articles over the last year. I saw a Camry shredded for shoddy interior fit and finish in a C&D article, and their standards weren't very high when considering a Hyundai got high marks in the same article. If Lexus had spent the extra $10 or so to make my car quiet, it would be perfect.

I had my IS350 since nov of 05 and there's nothing wrong with it. I like how you brought up all the issues that are the most recent topics. No one ever complained about their a/c problem and the funny smell from trunks til recently. The only repetitive problem that we have seen from this forum is the rattling which can be fixed and i would like to find out what the percentage of IS owners having rattle problems. I think overall this is a great car compared to the BMWs and G's

Nothing to complain about at all. Nothing. No smells, no rattles and no bad fitting parts. No reason to take it to a dealer and fuss. Nuts. I would love to try out a loaner car. Or would I?

best car for the money imo. the car is beautiful and so is the 335i and the g35 coupe, but the interior of the IS is far superior to the other cars in the price range to me. there are just really picky people on this board. your average joe that's not a car fanatic and modifier would never harp on these small issues.

A lot of these smaller problems are isolated. I would say overall the IS is a well built car, but there are definitely known issues with the 06 models. For example I have the paint stain issue, as well as the pre-TSB brakes/rotors. Also I have noticed a defect in the front right quarter panel near the passenger side headlight (quarter panel does not line up with the hood). This is a factory defect and cannot be fixed by a body shop. It is not noticeable, only if you are looking very closely.

New JD Powers and Associate ratings were posted in the newspaper today. Quality ratings were for three year old cars. Yep, Lexus was first (but tied with Buick?) with having the fewest problems. Enough said.
