My first reaction would have been, "A Porsche and a Hummer? Someone is clearly trying to compensate. Feeling inadequate?"

Really, life is too short to be concerned about what other people think. If you're happy with it, then that's all that matters.

The "compensate" comment is a good one .

His Hummer was an H2 and his Porsche a 911. And guys/gals, my whole point in posting is exactly how UN-bothered I was at the "insult". I've accomplished enough in life to not let comments about the car I drive have any effect on my blood pressure.

Somebody wanna post up JD Powers numbers for top 10 "Guy" cars??

That's why you must man it up a bit with an exhaust, intake etc.
I have #4 and getting #3 and I don't think it's a girls car at all. I mean I know alot of girls that drive AC Integs, I don't think thats a girl car. If you see a girl in a white IS your like wow chick car but you see me in my black on black with tints and rims etc.. thats a mans car.

Women work and make money so they like to by nice cars just like men do, women drive all the same vehicles men want to drive because they are just nice vehicles.

Maybe he's just pissed because you have a hotter wife and you "just" bought an IS? I don't think I'd want to reel in a chick who likes a Hummer. She'd be just like it - all plastic and gimmicky on the outside, but unsatisfying as hell once on the inside.

Although depending on the Porsche I woulda traded him right there =) No Boxsters!

I think it's not so much a "chick car" as it is a car that girls think is "cute", which works out extremely well in our favor. Re-thinking this, I would have to agree with a previous post and say that it is neutral.

Zeus-
Next time you see the guy, ask him this;
Whats the difference between a Porsche and a porcupine?
The ***** is on the inside!

I find it interesting that the guy brags about owning both a Porsche and a Hummer- he's probably got a H3 and an early 996 (considered a joke amoung real porschefiles)

I hardly doubt, a car that looks like a small tank when fixed up, is a girls car!

What's the deal with that? Is it simply because of the headlights? I kind of liked the 996 headlights because Porsche was doing something different.

Best personalized license plate I've ever seen was a guy driving an original Mini (which is an incredibly tiny vehicle) and it read

I guess that would be a form of reverse compensation. GR8 PL8

On Topic (well marginally): The IS250 is definitely a girls car...So much so, in fact, that men should be required to check their "junk" at the door of the dealership when taking delivery. I'm so kidding, btw.

I have nothing to add to this thread except to mention that my wife drives a Porsche and she's not the only one at the Porsche club meetings .

The "soft" styling, the gay boxster interior, and yes, those FUGLY headlights.
The only 996's that were worth a crap were the gt's and tt's
You can buy 2 996's for the price of a later 993, that's how poorly the Porsche community views the 996.
I almost bought a 996 C4S(you can get a fairly low mileage one for less than $45k), but was going to do the Hamman 996 to 997 front end conversion, but in the end, I'd still be sitting inside that terrible interior.

I'm totally happy with my IS, interior is great, the power of the 350 makes it fun- I really like the styling even if it is a bit camry-girly esque.

The stats blend in the cars which is not right. If you broke the cars down you would find such things:

Women would own a pretty high percent of models like the IS250, 325/328, 300c's

Men would own a pretty high percent of models like the IS350, 335/M3, 350c's.

etc...
