Dealer left horrible buff marks all over, is my paint ruined?
When I took delivery of my car it had hard water marks everywhere, so they told me they would buff it out and wax it. It looked good after they were done because the wax they used had a ton of fillers. Once I washed it all the imperfections show through. The car has HORRIBLE buff marks everywhere. They look like holograms.
Did they totally ruin my paint or would I be able buff it all out using the Porter Cable and appropriate pads/polish? I'm just afraid they took too much clear coat off when they buffed it.
Would I be able get the dealership to pay the $300-400 to get it done by a professional?

Never let the hacks at the dealer "correct" your paint. The only way to know how much clear you have left is with a paint gauge, but you're probably ok.
If the swirls are bad, it will be a tough job with a PC. You might want to have it done by a good detailer with a rotary buffer. Of course, if you have a weekend to work on it with your PC, that might do the trick as well.
The dealership hasn't improved their detailing service because they're not getting complaints. Make sure you take the car to them, show them how screwed up your paint is, and let them know in no uncertain terms that swirls, holograms, and buffer trails aren't a "feature" on this car. Give them a chance to make it right, but INSIST that you choose the detailer. The last thing you want is for the same idiot that screwed up the paint the first time to take a wool pad to it to "level" the paint.

hummm now how did know this was about black paint?
anyway - I'd go to a high quality paint shop - not the dealer - they should be able to take care of this for you.
