Would aftermarket 18" rims look ugly, or should I stick with the standard (19")?

Would aftermarket 18" rims look ugly, or should I stick with the standard (19")?
All this talk lately about damaged 19"+ rims, rough ride quality, fast wear and tear is making me reconsider getting 19" rims.
I'm thinking of getting the PIAA Super Rozza in the OEM 18" size (front 18 x 8.0, rear 18 x 8.5). My thinking is that they will be a perfect fit and will ride like stock, no nasty suprises like rubbing and clearance issues. Since I can use the stock tires I won't need to worry about the negatives of using 19" low profile tires (fast wear and tear, higher % of damaging rims, slight performance loss).
What do you guys think? Would getting aftermarket 18"s just not look right since the de facto standard is 19 x 8.5, 19 x 9.5? Would they look too puny?

I don't quite understand what you mean by this. How would the stock 18's (not lowered) look better than aftermarket 18's (also not lowered)? Since the aftermarker 18's will be the exact same size as the stock 18's and use the same tires, both aftermarket and stock will be in the exact same position. There will be no difference in the stance, so how would the stock 18's look better?

Independent of the look of the rims, why would aftermarket 18" rims require lowering to "look better"; while stock 18" rims "look much better" without lowering?

Sorry for the newbie question but should a person worry about wheel offset and width of the new wheels when keeping the stock OEM tires? Well, offset is probably not a factor when it comes to the tires but are the OEM tires only works with certain wheel widths? Thanks.

I have aftermarket 18"s, and it's lowered.
It's perfect. Smooth cruising feels comfortable because of taller tires (compared to 19" with smaller tires), and twisties are a bit more enthusiastic because of the drop. Being able to find more tire choices available at lower costs (compared to 19"s) is also a big plus.
