damage estimate
last week i got in a little accident
...resulting in a quarter panel replacement/rear bumper replacement/paint job
i went to get an estimate and was told that the whole side of my car and trunk would have to be re-painted. the color of my car is glacier frost mica...difficult color to create, no?
the estimate came out to $3700...does that sound right? a majority of the cost, of course, comes from labor and extensive paint job...

Generally when you state 1/4 panel replacement you mean the rear 1/4 panel. That involves cutting out the original and welding in the new one. Huge job. Do you mean just a front fender replacement? if so, your estimate sounds a little high to me. If you really meant a 1/4 panel replacement that estimate is a little low IMHO.

I have $8,600 damage from my accident which includes rear end, trunk, quarter panel. You can search for my post which has some photos.

It depends on how big the damage is but it is generally cheaper to replace than fix when it comes to body panels. So replacing front panel would cost less than fixing the rear panel due to extensive labor. Most of all, the reason it might sound too much for a 1/4 panel is because it's a LEXUS.

Yea, the problem with a rear quarter panel is that its actually a part of the side member, which runs all the way around the door openings and right up to the front fender. Its a big piece and actually provides most of the structure of the body.
