I was just thinking what the logic behind making a V6 IS250 in a tiny 2.5L displacement motor. I mean, I've seen 4cyl using 2.5's, lol. Why not go with a 3.0 or something? After all, displacement matters right?

A V-6 is fundamentally smoother (less NVH) than any four cylinder. I have seen V-6s as small as 1.8 litres in production cars.

A 4 cylinder Lexus just doesn't convey the right brand image, so the 6 with its added smoothness is necessary.
It's 2.5 instead of 3.0 probably because of corporate fuel economy standards and probably because marketing has determined that the most revenue/profits can be generated at that output and price level.
Also a 3.0 might make the decision to choose between the 300 and the 350 hard, as both the power and MPG tradeoff gets much tighter...

lobux is right once again.... it's the smoothness....
just imagine... someone hitting you... both instance you will feel the same amount of total pain in one second. It's just that one requires 4 punches and the other requires 6 punches. hence the 6 punch will have lower magnitude per punch... kinda dumb way of explaining...
