Default damage quote

so i hit something in my garage, and it left a decent scratch around my front wheel. no real body damage, just paint gone. i went and got a quote ...$1800! he wanted to repaint a large part of the side of teh car, including the bumper, door, etc. he said i could have just the scratched part painted in, but it would not match as well and would still be noticeable. what do you guys think? is the second option better since the area is pretty small?

it never hurts to get more than estimate. i mean he could be telling the truth, but someone could always do it for cheaper.

I did the same thing this weekend! Although, I don't think mine's as deep. It's only on the front bumper too, so I wonder if it's cheaper to repaint the bumper/buy a new bumper/fix scratches+detail it.

Ouch, the first day I got my car this 6 inch screw driver without a handle punctured my wheel and scratched my back wheel passenger wheel similar to the first pic but smaller. I just put touchup paint and you barely notice its there unless you go up real close you can see the difference.

If that is a pic of one of the fenders then yes to fix it correctly, it will cost a good amount. By the looks of the scratch, the door would also have to be blended but not the bumper as bumpers already dont match the body, same as any plastic moulding/piece on the car.

If you paint just the fender, there is a good chance that you will see a color difference between the door and fender and maybe even the fender to the hood.

Any pictures from farther away?

make insurance pay for it if its going to be that much....it's why I got a $0 deductible....still sucks though, sorry.

P.S. I would think you could get a new painted panel for about $1800....
