Default Auto light setting is it bad for HIDs?

I want to know if this is bad for the HIDs, because everytime you start the car, you flash the bulbs if it's day time? I love this feature but I don't want to shorten the bulb lights.

Also has anyone had a problem with the lights not turn off?

I think it is and never leave mine in AUTO mode. But that being said if anything but the bulb goes out Im sure Lexus would replace it under warranty. They would probably replace the bulb too if it burned out prematurely.

It was a consensus here awhile back to not use the auto feature. I dont.

not a good idea if you go through a lot of bright/dark situations (e.g. tunnels...)

Same here. I never turn them on or off unless I'm in the garage and don't want to wait for them to shut off when I pull in and turn off the engine.

I leave mine in auto. The lights and auto windshield wipers are a couple of my favorite features. I thought in the manual it says that the factory setting is to wait 30 before turning the lights on or off while in auto. It's hard to imagine Lexus would create a feature that is fundamentally bad for the car.

It definitely takes longer than I would have thought going thru a tunnel for them to come on. I usually see cars in my rear view that clearly have auto headlights coming on before mine do.

LOL. Why would you wait? They go off automatically all on their own.

Lexus has been doing this with HIDs since 1999. We had a 2000 GS400 (Sold in 2003) and a 2001 RX300 with HIDS. They were always in Auto. Never had problems with the GS and still don't have any problems with the RX300.

Default yea, but auto washers suck for carwash.

I do leave my lights on AUTO, but I turned off the auto on windshield wipers. The reason was car washes. The 3rd time I left them on auto, the things turned on while the car was in the wash, and one blade got caught in the cloth that hangs from the top to gently wash your car.

They are too far out of mind for me in AUTO to remember to turn them off when doing a car wash.

My take: why worry about it? Stuff will break no matter what you do, worrying about every little thing will cause ulcers. If you can't/don't want to pay for maintenance & service on a car, you shouldn't own that car.

You should have said: 'you shouldn't own ANY car.' and throw in a house/apt/maintenance on a gf,wife,bf,husband... oh yea, pets, clothes... err just about everything
