Rotating moves the front tires back and vice versa to ensure even tire wear.

In that case you can rotate between left/right, but not front/back. Unless your wheels or tires have a specific directional pattern then you're outta luck.

rotating tires traditionally means move front wheels to back and back to front. but there are a few problems with this for some cars:

1. if your car was designed such that your rear wheels/tires are wider than your fronts, its a bad idea to rotate. best case being that your car will no longer handle as it should.
2. if you have directional tires, that limits your ability to move the tires around further. ie the tire must always rotate in one direction
3. if you have tires that are asymmetric such that they only have an outside vs inside, that will also limit your ability to move the tires.
4. if you have tire pressure sensors mounted, and you move the wheels it may require reprogramming.

Toyota TPMS is not that picky about wheel position. No worries there.

Since we can't rotate staggered tires, every 5,000 miles I have my tires dismounted and re-mounted on the opposing wheel, facing the same direction to maintain the correct directional tread. Works like a charm, and increases my tread life big time.

My RE050A PP's have OUTSIDE on the sidewall. You couldn't do this and keep that working correctly, but they don't say anything about the tires being strictly directional. I've been meaning to peek at the inside and see if there is something there...

The RE050A PP's and Michelin PS2's can't be flipped, because they have an asymmetrical tread pattern. This only works with tires that have a symmetrical tread, like the Dunlop Sport Maxx tires, and others.

I have a Supra with staggered wheels - 8's in the front and 9's in the back. It is critical that you watch the pressure and keep it where it is supposed to be. Also critical is to be sure that front and REAR alignment is to factory specs. BUT...I had mine aligned at Toyota and still was wearing the inside edges of the rear tires. I found someoneat a tire store to tweak the alignment slightly to bring the outside in a little more and now they are wearing as close to perfect as possible. Talk to a good tire dealer and have him guide you.

so should i try this with my tires? i am running 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 with 235/35/19 and 265/35/19. but then again i dont want to risk having my rims scratched up everytime i do so.

I see that you have Michelin Pilot Sports. If you have PS2, they are asymmetrical tires, meaning, the tire has a specific side which needs face outward. In that case, you won't be able to dismount and remount on the other side of the axle. You'll have to take your rim left rims and just put them on the right side. However, I doubt you'll benefit by doing that. Just make sure you have your tire pressure checked regularly and check your toe setting on your alignment.
