To all you beach goers. Just wondering what you guys/girls did with your KEY FOB? I frequent the beach often, usually on the solo tip, and I've been having to take the spare ride.

Getting it wet is the last thing I want to do. And leaving it on the beach gets me paranoid about theft. What do you do?

 

Uh...what do you do with the keys for the spare ride? Practically every car built within the last 10+ years has a key fob of some sort.

 

I'm pretty sure our key fobs are water proof but I'm still a little skeptical about taking it under water...

 

My spare ride is an Acura Integra with a regular style key. I usually secure just the key on the loop inside the pocket of my boardshorts.

Wow, so if you go by yourself, where do you leave all your other stuff?

 

usually i just put my key fob in my back pack and let it chill on the beach while i go play. Im kind of paranoid but the beach i go to is pretty small and empty when i have gone so i can see if anyone goes near my stuff.

When i got the car I asked the sales person what do i do with it at the beach...and her response was "well its like a normal key" so i asked about it getting wet then she said "hmmm, yeah not a good idea".

actually the FOBs are pretty waterproof... they have a rubber lining on the inside... Mine's gone through the washing machine twice and it works perfectly...even comes out a little bit cleaner!

 

Usually just take what I need to body board. That's all.

not a good idea....they got a sensor (antenna) in the trunk.....if you leave the fob inside the trunk, anyone can get the key and drive away......

 

I bought my husband and I a thin rectangular waterproof plastic container to use. He zippers it in his bathing suit and if I use it when I'm on my kayak, I wear it around my neck. You can buy them in surf shops.

I also got a mini waterproof dive pouch at the airport of all places. That one's a little bigger, but you can even put a cell phone in that one too. I think it's made by Samsonite.

Just remember to place a maker for your self to remember where you put it (ie; stick, water bottle, towel...)

We were fishing a while back in kern river and I watched my key flop out of my pocket roll down the side of the rock i was sitting on and drop into the water . It took about a second to register what happened, and as I saw the current begin to move the key I threw myself into the water and gave chase , after a few tense seconds I was able to grab the key from the rocky/slippery bottom. I thought the key was toast but i tried unlocking the car from the side of the river where I stood and the thing worked perfectly .

So long story short, I wouldn't tie it to your shorts like you would a normal key but our fobs can withstand a dunking now and then.

 

How can anyone get the trunk open?
