Default ECU Question

I've read alot of threads here about how to reset the ECU. one says you have to disconnect the negative cable to the battery then pull two fuses out for 1 min then put back in. on another thread i read you just have to pull the negative battery cable for 1 min and thats it. so which is it? just the negative cable or the negative cable and the two fuses?
