Default buying from an out of state dealer

So it seems that with the limited amount of lexus dealers in the DC area, it's very hard to get a good price. After reading different posts it seems that i could get an is350 MUCH cheaper if i go to SoCal or Florida. If i bought it from Orlando, i would fly down and drive it back up. I wanted to know if it is smart to drive a brand new car 900 miles or is it better to have it shipped.

Also, are there any dealers that anyone recommends that would let a is350 go for invoice? I enjoy traveling thats why i dont mind making a trip out to somewhere... mini vacation never hurts

I went out of state to get mine and saved a ton of cash...drove it back about 1000 miles with no issues...if your local dealers won't negotiate...go elsewhere!

I actually found my (new) car on autotrader.com -- dealer had 2 exactly the same; haggled a bit and was on my way to get it. I used a Capitalone check and there was no issues at all.

I was searching for a used IS350 with the options I wanted for a month and a half before I found one but it was all the way in Los Angeles. No problem, I hoped on a plane and bought the car. I drove it back in 2.5 days and that included a night in Vegas I got a great deal and I'm very happy with the car. I say if you can't get a great deal locally go somewhere else.

PS. I bought the car at Crown Lexus in Ontario, Ca. They gave me a great deal on a used one but I don't know how they are when you buy a brand new one.

Did you guys have to pay cash? I was going to buy out of state but I was told I had to have an in-state address or pay full cash.

Sounds crazy. Go to the internet, or your insurance company, and get pre-approved. They can send you a "site draft" which functions like cash, you litterally call them at the dealer and fill in the amount, then they send you the final paperwork afterwards.

I bought mine out of state also. The charge was only 300.00 to deliver. I personally wouldn't put it on the highway for possible rocks flying up on a new car before i could even get it home. JMO

I bought out of state in PA. Easy transaction. Told the dealer I was out of state, and instead of having paperwork with taxes included, they preped the paperwork without taxes and threw in 30-day transit tag. Must get a temp tag. You'll pay sales taxes where you live and regisistar the car. No way to get out of taxes or pay taxes where you buy the car, wherever your residence is will dictate the sales tax you pay.

Whoever was told they had to pay cash-only if an out of state resident is partially right/wrong. A BankOne Check is cash---not your cash, but it's cash to Lexus. Dealerships have a harder time with out of state buys because if you think about it, you'd get a loan from Lexus at the dealership, then with your 30-day temp tags are responsible for taxes and registration where you live. Might be some legal issues if you never registered it and never paid taxes but driving a 40k car that Lexus Corp is fronting the money loan for. See where the problem might be. Lexus doesn't want to trust you to register and pay taxes on time. They don't want their 40k car getting repo'ed because you never paid sales tax.

I scheduled to have a clear bra put on the day after I got home. Made sure I didn't follow any trucks on the highway. Everything worked good 275mi transport home. Highly recommend a clear bra. Mine is 3m and was either $475 or 575 for full front extended.
