Default Oil Question

I decided to go with either 0w20 or 5w20. I've read through a lot of the oil threads and people have gone 10k miles fine with full synthetic, but is it ok to do an oil and filter change every 10k (I would still top it off every 5k but not change the filter). And I'm trying to decide between, Mobil 1 and Amsoil, any opinions would help.

I go with Amsoil 5w30 and do a once a year oil and filter change which is usually 6-7K miles but I would go 10K if I did the mileage in a year.
I go 10K on the wife's RAV4 with Amsoil 0w20.

i just did 5W 20 Mobil 1...i go 15k miles but i do that in about 5 mos if i didnt i would change it once a year. i have used Mobil one for years and had no issues. i haev heard good stuff about Amsoil also but never used it. either way i am sure you cant go wrong! there is a post on a DIY for the oil change. its easy on our car. i didnt even lift it and had no issues. i just moved so i couldnt find my jack and stuff...of course! good luck!

Don't understand the uncertainty as to what viscosity oil to use and change intervals. Why not simply follow the manufacturer's recommendations. They are based on extensive testing by lubrication and mechanical engineers. Not sure what is the benefit of doing something different, in fact there is a good chance it could be detrimental.

As far as the choice between oil brands, any mainstream brand seems a good bet, as long as they meet Lexus' specifications. Hope this helps.

The dealer recommends you get an oil change every 5k miles, AT the dealership of course... so he can make $ off you a lot more often.

There's simply no good reason a quality synthetic motor oil needs changing anywhere near that often under normal driving conditions though.

But if they told you that they'd make less money doing oil changes.
