Default Black Pearl Emblem Problem tarnishing...

My black pearl emblems which are 2 months old are tarnishing. The "L" emblem has a rainbow affect now and it is starting on the "Lexus" emblem as well.
Has anybody else had this problem with the black pearl emblems? Hell they cost so much I figured they had to be of good quality.
I live in Las Vegas, NV and it gets real hot here in the summer, but I would figure they would last me at least one summer without fading and turning colors. Heck they really should last forever, but I noticed the backing tape on them is not as good as the OEM tape either. So in other words when I take the black pearl emblems off, it is going to be a lot easier than taking the OEM ones off.
It really aggravates me that they charge so much and this is what happens. I am tempted to attempt to get my money and send the emblems back. Ill just put the chrome ones back on. At least I know their color will stay consistent.

Default Mine Did the Same Thing

I only had the emblems for the car about 3 months before the front one did the same thing. For the 600 plus they charge that should never happen. I would never pay the money for them, but they were already on the car when I bought it. I just had the front L replaced a couple weeks ago and told the dealer they should get a set of the IS250 letter also, because I am sure they will fall off sooner or later. I am thinking sooner. They do not use the same backing tape. The black chrome emblems are not made by Lexus, they are by an after market company. I think Lexus should have used a better supplier.

I've had mine on for a few months now, and no problems with tarnishing yet...knock wood. Also, we've got a Land Cruiser with a set, and again: no problem.

The only problem with the IS one is, like you said, the tape is not as good.

I've thought about painting my chrome emblems black to match my black car - is there anything that could be used for that and/or fix this problem?

well Sewell Lexus is a very stand up company. They are sending me a replacement set and a fedex label to send back the defective emblems. No questions asked on their part. I think that is very stand up of them.

I saw a thread in the detaling car care about using model paint.
I haven't tried it but I've used the paint for my RC and the smoke/transparent looks amazing. I can see it working well on emblems.

I'm in Cali, but the car is garaged at home and work yet this is starting to happen. I'm probably going to contact sewell about it, just a pain to remove and reapply OT-MY Driver side headlight has condensation after washing the car yesterday....

Tamiya modeling paint and some clear coat guys..I did them a year ago and they still look FRESH. Get the gunmetal color and it looks exactly like the black pearl

To be exact, it's this one.

This is why Sewell gets such GREAT reviews from me. I could never see any vendor on this site doing this for a customer. Although they do not have stiff competition because Sewell will actually returns your PMs, emails, and calls. You're lucky to get this type of basic service from the other vendors.
