There is a fuel filter. It's in the tank. You would be foolish to insist on replacing it unless you have hard evidence there is a problem.
Sorry for bringing the old thread back but thank you for the info on the fuel filters for the Lexus 2IS that was very helpful. I was thinking about getting the fuel filter replaced as a maintenance (don't think this was ever replaced) but after reading this...I'll just leave it alone.
If the car has around 100k I would do it. It's pretty simple to do If your mechanically inclined. Search threads for the 2GS fuel filter change. It's pretty much the same procedure.
Cross posting some pictures of the replacement process here. Like Mike said, it's not that complicated, just take your time disassembling and reassembling the pump assembly. Be prepared to get elbow deep in gasoline if you drop the fuel pump inlet hose in the tank like I did. My old filter looks filthy after 150k miles!
The pump assembly lives under this cover The pump assembly (ignore my messy truck tailgate) With the old filter out - ready to transfer the motor/strainer unit to the new filter. Cleaned strainer Old vs new filter - you can see how dirty the old media is, through the holes.
