help!!! need some quick advice on a trade!

of course the dealer has to make money and I knew that.
the question is how much you want them to make and have them work hard for it.
I know my trade in is a bit lower then what i could've gotten if i sell it privately. I can probably get like 2k more if i sell it privately. but the fact that i can get a is350 for 35k and shell out only 2k more to get it...that makes me quite happy. and 31k for my is250awd isnt really that bad. my payment is even lower and for some odd reason, my insurance is lowered too. and second I dont have to hassle with people with selling my car. and you're right dealer alway wins.

Trading cars in is the worst thing you can do since you get low balled in 2 areas. Don't forget he wont give you market value for your vehicle cause he still has to make money on it so your down there already. Then obviously he wont sell you the new one cheaper either cause he has to make money there as well

Surely you jest. Getting the 350 for $10k under sticker is unbelievable, so even if he took a $3k hit on the trade, he STILL made out like a bandit. I would pay $35k for a new '06 with lux, nav, PA, and HL washers without even batting an eye. The only things it is missing is ML and radar cruise control. No matter what anyone says, you got a GREAT deal.

You got $31K.
You weren't going to get $31K selling it on your own.Let alone $33K.
I can go to Lexus dealers and get a certified low mileage '06 IS250 AWDs in my area for less than $31K.
Enjoy the 350.

If it is all a legit deal you got a great price. But I still wonder why the 2006 was still on the lot?? Even if they had a tough time selling it they could have EASILY swapped it with another dealer who had more demand for an IS350 rather than letting it sit for over a year on their lot. That cost them money. But nobody said the dealers are genius's, maybe they just weren't on the ball and it got lost in the shuffle until finally the sales manager said 'get rid of it NOW' and then you walked in. Who knows?

Sales tax issue. I live in RI. If I trade in a car and get $31,000 for it, I don't pay tax on that portion of the sale. So If I buy a new car for $35,000 I only pay tax on the difference or $4000 x 7%.
If it works the same way in NY then multiply your 31 X tax rate and you would have to sell your car privately for $31,000 plus the added tax you will pay without the trade in or (in RI) $31,000 X 7%= $2170.
So I would have to sell the car for $33,170 to break even.

I traded in my 2006 IS AWD last December for a 2007 IS 350 and couldn't be happier. Love the car.

yea, it works the same way. Totally forgot about the sales tax portion, I only had to pay about 450bucks in tax..which actually works out better..good point O7-IS350!!!

so i picked up my is350 today!!!! its awesome! I'm loving it!!
one thing I notice though, it has the trac OFF button..was it there in 2006? i thought they put that in, in 2007. I could be wrong..
there is the auto dim side mirror function, is there a way to turn that off? I think it gets a bit too dark ..im not too comfortable with it yet.
ooh also, there is park assist, but there's no button to turn that thing off. is there suppose to?
and as for the tires , I got the bridgestone RE050... I was hoping for the Dunlop, but oh well.
Overall I'm really satisfied with Rallye dealership.. great service, awesome deal!
