make my car faster

My Z06 got 30+ on the highway and it is a 400+ HP car.
I baby my car ALL of the time trying to see if it was just me coming from the Z06 causing the crappy gas mileage. I have been "cruising" it as you guys say and it doesn't help. I have never gotten over 405 miles to a tank and that is pushing it way pas empty. I drive 95% highway and baby it in the city.
You guys explain it to me if I'm wrong, but I figured since it is a 17.1 gallon tank and if there is a gallon of gas or so hiding under the "E" that 16 gallons times 28 miles per gallon would get me about 448 miles per tank. Maybe I'm looking @ this all wrong. Someone explain it to me if I am.

Don't ever try to estimate mileage based on the rated fuel capacity. I've never been able to put more than 14 gallons in the tank even when the computer says 0 miles to empty.
If you want to know more about our fuel economy, there are tons of threads about it. I've gotten as high as 35 MPG with mostly highway mileage at 60 MPH in Snow Mode.

Well that would make me feel much better if that really is true. I have never "tested" it to see how many miles I can go after the "E" until empty so I don't know. I have gone about 15 miles after the "E" trying to get to my favorite gas station.
Do you guys ever use your trip meter to try and see how many actual miles you are getting per fill up?

these cars aren't very "modable" Most of the mods even for the 350 will give you very little numbers. I don't think you can even go forced induction on your car, but I'm not sure. If you don't lose too much, just go 350. But you will pay for it in crappy, crappy gas mileage.

Wow you guys let your tanks get to E??? I treat half tank as E. I hit half tank and its off to the gas station to top off. My precious deserves nothing less.

Once you put some miles on it, this makes more sense. For newer cars, there really isn't enough 'sediment' at the bottom of the tank to warrant a 'fresh mix', but I'm with you about not letting it get too low.

I'd also hold onto it and make your next car a fast one.
One tip: DON'T DRIVE THE 350!!! You'll just get more pissed that you didnt get one. Dont bother modding...a supercharged 250 would probably still lose to the 350. Who knows....but maybe.
in fact....dont drive anything else until you sell your car. If its nicer and faster you'll hate it for being fast, and if its cheaper and as fast/faster, you'll hate it for being half the price and still as fast/faster than your lexus

I use the trip meter method all the time. I've gone 456.2 miles on a tank once and filled up with 15.005 gallons. I averaged over 28 mpg from Sacramento to Atlanta.

I use the same method. When I go visit my family up north I reset my trip meter to zero and save all my gas receipts then I compute my total distance to and back and divide w/ total gallons used.

i drive really slow in the IS250. I let it be seen, call me grandpa on the road, but man at least everyone is getting a show. .... i have test drove more cars but never make the plunge into getting rid of the IS..... Also i haven't got a speeding ticket in the IS250 yet! Knock on wood. Good luck!
Maybe it's just me getting older and hopefully wiser. I have nothing to prove going fast at my age and besides I think the 250 is fast enough compared to other "compact" cars. I bought the 250 for the looks and not the power.

werd... I got my fill of racing with my Z. I wish I would have gotten the 250 instead. I am into economy and cruising now.

First and foremost, don't add things. Start taking some of the weight off: get rid of the spare (make sure you have something like AAA though), change the seats from heavy electronic seats with fans to racing seats, taking off many of the plastic covers and such, changing to racing wheels, etc...

Hey tlo,
I have a question, and maybe a solution for you.
When you first bought the IS and jumped in the seat, did it feel fast?
Reason is, I have an AWD250 too and it "felt" fast when I got it. Now, with all the babying for mileage the car has learnt to be uh... slow. Now, it feels like some old minivan on 87octane gas.
Mine is less than 4 months old.
I figure, when I take it in for my 5000, I'll have them reset the ECU, that should put back the pep in 'er step.
You can always reset the ECU on your own though, I just want to really notice the difference.
Hope this helps, let me know so I can know what to expect with mine.
