Did you test this? I agree that there is some amount of reserve, but I haven't seen anything that says there is 2 gallons. Just because the fuel coapacity is listed as ~17 gallons in the manual doesn't mean that all of that fuel is useable. I've never had a car that allowed me to use more than about 95% of the total fuel capacity before I was walking.

I have driven 40 miles after the tank says 0 before. Many times I driven 20-30 miles after it hit 0.

40 miles could just be about 1 gallon if driven extremely carefully on the highway.

20-30 miles after 0 is definitely fine.
have about 3-4 occasions already, city driving.
I think i filled up a 15.6-15.7 gallon once, doesn't remember the exact number but at least 15.5, didn't want to test the limits for sure

My dad taught me to always fill up at 1/4 tank - I'm sure it's not necessary with these new fancy systems (is it?) but it's a habit, so...

My husband, however, had my car down to 8 miles.

i filled right when my miles left hit 0 and i filled about 14 gallons. so i guess i had about 3 gallons left. at about 20mpg, i could technically go for another 60 miles. the most that i've ever filled was 16.5 gallons and i was getting very nervous while driving to the gas station.

Yeah I heard that its bad to run on empty because it will cause malfunction of your gas needle. Myth?

Anyways I got to 5 miles.
