I noticed that after parking, the door chime sometimes goes sounds off when opening the door. It doesn't happen all the time, but on more than one occasion, the engine is off, door is open, and the chime is... well.. chiming. Any idea what causes that?

The only time I've noticed this is when I start to open the door a split second before pressing the button to turn off the ignition. Are you absolutely sure the engine is off before opening the door??

What the heck is the car chiming about? It's as if it's bad for the car to turn off the engine after opening the door. But that doesn't make any sense.

It's in case you forget to turn off the engine when you get out of your car.

It chimes even if you dont open the door first. The steering wheel has to finish comming up first, then you can open the door without hearing a chime. I personally think it's annoying and dont understand the "safety" logic behind it.

this only pertains to lux pack 2IS but even us w/o that pack and thus lacking the auto steering wheel have this annoying and useless chime...and it goes off regardless of whether or not the engine is off prior to openning the door.

It is a safety feature that the chime sounds while the door is open AND the engine is running, but it is a design flaw that the chime doesn't stop as soon as the car is properly turned off (via Start / Stop button with tranny in Park). If you briefly push the door pin switch on the door pillar, the chime will stop. I've considered wiring up a 555 timer to the pin switch to do this very thing automatically ever .5 seconds when the door is open.
