I am new to the IS350 (recent 06 CPO purchase with 15k mi). I'm not new to Lexus as I owned a 97 ES300. Standing outside the car, the old ES literally ran like a sewing machine. You could barely hear it run - no clatter, no knock, etc. By comparison, my IS350 is a bit noisier. I don't know if I'm hearing valve clatter, injectors, or what. Inside I don't hear anything too disturbing - just a very muted fluttering sound.

I realize the IS350 has a completely different powerplant than the old ES. I just wondered if what I'm hearing is normal.

Direct injection, it is normal.

Yes that clicking sound you hear at idle is the direct injection.

Thanks. I figured it was normal. Just wondered what it was. The more I drive this car, the better I like it. It's nimble like the 330i but goes in a straight line more like my 540i. And, the ride is amazingly smooth for a sport sedan. If only the back seat were just a tad roomier . . . .

Hello - I am considering an IS350, have taken it for a test drive.

I have also driven the BMW 335i. Both are awesome cars.
Would you care to comment how your IS compares to your recently retired BMW ?
