Default Outside Temperature & Tire Pressure Monitor

Does anyone know if a big change in outside temperature can affect the tire pressure monitoring system?

We had a cold front come through South Texas today and the temp is normally around 95-100 but its currently <70 degrees. When I got in my car after work I am getting the "low tire" warning. I visually checked each tire and couldn't see anything that looked low so I drove to the nearest Auto Zone...bought a good digital tire pressure gauge and tested each tire...all are at 27.5-28 psi.

Not sure what is setting off the alert...only thing I could think of was the weather.

Cold weather will affect your tire pressure. When you hear hooves don't think zebras, think horses

the recommended PSI are as follows:
Front: 35 PSI
Rear: 37 PSI

I happened to me once (low tire warning), I checked the pressure and it was around 30PSI on all 4 tires.

This happened to me this morning, went to go to work this morning (kinda chilly out) and got low pressure message. The tires didn't look low but one of the rears was around 30psi.

Thanks for the feedback everyone...I'll fill them up tomorrow to around ~35psi each.

I recently put 38-40psi on all 4 tires because my tpms went off too.

When my TPMS went off I check all my tires with a guage and all off my tires were btw 32-35psi so I dont think its 30psi.

Does anyone know at what pressure the tpms goes off?

I haven't read the manual thoroughly enough, but most other TPMS don't go off at a certain PSI, but only on more drastic changes (sudden loss of pressure). I'm sure each manufacturer has their own definition of 'sudden' though.

They should have done a real time pressure info on each tire.....

Besides the fact that you lose a very small amount of air over time, every ~11 degree delta translates to about 1 psi.

You should check your tire pressure once a month...

Also, don't check them after a long drive or on a super hot time of day...

Try to check them via the shortest drive to to the gas station in the morning..
