I haven't had these kind of problems since I started autocrossing 15 years ago!
Exactly what happened to me! When the port installed my G-Spiders, one of the lug nuts was put on wrong and was cross threaded. The bolt snapped in half and took about 125lbs of constant torque to get the lug just to move. FYI: fixing the fronts are a bit more complex than the rear where I had my problem, so said my Lexus specialist.

He went back to the shop and they apologized for not giving him the hub-centric adapters.
Right on the money! Those who track their cars and switch out the wheels know this.

Almost positive Toyota lugs aren't supposed to be tightened that far. My buddy works at discount tire and he says that Toyota is lower than most manufacturers torque requirements, and that its also the #1 reason people ruin their lugs.

Make sure that the shank of the lug nut is not too long. With the wheel off the car, insert a lug nut into the lug of the wheel. If you can see any part of the shank protrude through the back side of the wheel then the lug nut is bottoming out against the hub and the wheel is not being tightened. If the lug nuts seems to tighten much faster than usual, say, 1/8 turn, that's a good indicator that you're bottoming out.

Toyota specs: 76 lb-ft of torque

last time I came back from the dealer and they torque my wheel over 120 lbs.......

If you have aftermaket wheel it is better if you buy the lugs that are made for those wheels.

I know that 90 ft-lbs is above spec, but the OEM spec seems WAY too loose with my torque wrench. I also don't see how overtightening would cause my lug nuts to loosen on their own and fall off. I do realize that overtightening could have contributed to the lug snapping off last night, but I realized this morning that my front wheels were last mounted up by a Goodyear tire place a couple weeks ago. I guess he must have cross threaded it.

Problem is, many aftermarket lug nut are sourced from the cheapest supplier possible in China. Is it any suprize that they aren't made to the same quality/tolerances/standards of OEM/specialist lug nuts.

Heck they probably don't meet (or are not required to meet) any US/European regulatory standards!

Why do something when you can't afford? Why buy lexus when you put some cheap wheels or cheap lugs just to go by? I think I would spend a lot more money on wheels and lugs from a reputable company so things won’t go wrong as often compare to other cheap wheels and lugs. Some people are lucky finding out they are only loosing a lug or two rather than loosing a wheel… I’ve seen so many people with cheap after market rims with problem loosing a wheel while driving. : O

Factory wheels are good but they are heavy, and people are limited to tires they want have. So far I think the stock wheels look much better than any of the after market wheels I’ve seen on this site.
