Default The ole' tape vs. drill the rear lip spoiler question...

Just got my new rear spoiler (thank you very much Mr. Sewell, $183 otd). I've done the searches and read through several pages of discussions on the subject that make me a little nervous to drill. What I'm really interested in hearing from those that taped it on, how it's holding up over the long term. I'm really tempted just to dremel off the 3 screws and tape her on, but I've never used the double sided tape to know how it performs.

Is it still on rock solid through the winter, all those washes, and rain storms? Has it moved around at all or wiggle when you touch it? Is it reasonable to expect that it'll stay rock solid for at least 5 years?

Anyone taped it on that wishes they would of drilled?

Obviously I'm a little nervous about drilling into a 3 month old trunk, and getting the holes straight so that it doesn't torque up the ends so they raise above the trunk. I've also wondered it if would be better to cut off the middle bolt and just use the two outside ones to reduce the allignment effects.
It's going on one way or the other this weekend.

Mine is drilled since it came like that from the port and that is how they do it. Many have used the tape method which seems to work ok. If you don't feel right about drilling do the tape method. What's the worst that can happen? You may have to replace the tape in a few years time. It's not likely to fly off.

I heard that the 3M Automotive grade adhesive is pretty good

When my brother had his spoiler installed on his GS that's the stuff he used. He also added urethane to it, but I think that's overkill. Although, I can tell you this, his spoiler is not coming off, that's for sure

Tape here. I didn't even use 3M. I used Scott outdoor molding tape (I think that's what it's called) but it's for outdoor use so it's supposed to hold in all sorts of weather conditions.

My spoiler is on the trunk rock solid. I check it from time to time and it's not loose at all. It's been on my trunk for about a year now.

It's surprisingly strong for a strip adhesive. Best thing to do is inspect someone's car who has it on there.

used the tape that came with the spoiler and it is still on there rock solid. Wouldn't do it any other way. It'll be fine. it has been on there for a year now.

mine is taped on and i am pretty sure it isn't going anywhere.

when most people hear of tape (adhesives) they think of the weak stuff, but don't take into consideration that many thing today use adhesives rather than screws or bolts b/c it is stronger and cheaper... like many skyscrapers or jets and many more...

Drill and just forget about it! Thats what I did.

I would be scared to tape it on because I would always fear for it to come off.

Plus I wanted to install it like it was designed to be! Not like I'm going to ever take it off.
