Rear cupholders hard working

I have to really work to get the rear cupholders to pop out. My car is fairly new to me - but used (CPO) - and I wonder if the previous owner might have spilled something sticky in there. Should it go in and out freely or is this just how it is? Can I lube it with something?

Clean he hinges. And then put a certain type of grease.
