Default Sound Insulation Question

Has anyone installed a sound insulation material between the trunk and the back seat? I'm trying to minimize the sound from the aftermarket exhaust. Will this work, or not worth the effort?

Which exhaust do you have?

Some exhaust systems have available silencers...

I have Tanabe and do not want to put silencers in it as it is already one of the quietest exhausts. I'm just looking for ways so it is quieter from the inside.

My ears must be more sensitive than yours. Yes, I agree they are quiet. I'm just looking to see how much I can insulate the sound (especially around 2500 rpm). I want to know if its worth the effort.

Ahh, the dreaded drone......

There are a bunch of products used to insulate your car, but I don't think any of them will get you what you want. In my experience, that annoying drone of exhausts is as much felt as heard.

You might check car audio forums for some sound insulation ideas...

You will waste your time and money with this. If you want real results you need to insulate the entire floor from the firewall back all the way back.

And material selection is important, I recommond Cascade.

With my last car, i spent about $500-$600 and in the end still was unhappy.

Found a good SS exhaust shop to upgrade the resonator on the exhaust and never been happier.

Good luck.

Have you used the product from EBay (fatmat)? If so, then there is conflicting results because someone used it and reported good results. He said he can barely hear his exhaust now. I plan to look at his install and hear it myself before buying anything. I tell you this, I don't plan to spend $500-$600. If $54 doesn't do it, I will not be mad.

And if anybody does want to do the whole floor, there's a lot cheaper ways to do it.

For example Grace ice/water shield (sold in the roofing section of most home improvement stores) is the exact same stuff as Dynamat, which sells for 5-10 times as much when purchased at audio shops.

Way back when, when I used to have an employee discount, I remember that there was about a 500% markup on dynamat.
